The Volkswagen Golf R is undoubtedly one of the most interesting compact sports cars currently available on the market. It's a car that can be compared to prestige models on several levels and it's significantly more affordable. In short, it's easy to understand why so many people choose it every year.
The German manufacturer has decided to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Golf R in Canada with a special edition limited to 500 units for the country.
There are no mechanical changes as the turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine from the regular Golf R is used. This engine produces 315 horsepower and up to 295 pound-feet of torque. The German manufacturer's compact sports car also benefits from standard all-wheel drive, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under 4.3 seconds. The best part is that Volkswagen allows you to choose between the six-speed manual transmission or the seven-speed automatic transmission for the special 20th Anniversary edition.
A few exclusivities
Of course, for a "special" edition to be special, it must offer unique elements. In the case of the Golf R 20th Anniversary, it comes with emblems featuring the number 20. You can choose between three colors: Lapiz Blue Metallic, Deep Black, and Pure White for the body. Additionally, the German manufacturer's sports car is equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels with a glossy black finish. If you opt for white or black, you will also get blue-painted exterior elements such as mirror covers and a decorative stripe that goes from one headlight to the other. In the case of the blue color, the contrasting elements are simply painted black.
The interior receives some carbon fiber elements, and the color blue dominates in several places, especially in the stitching. The panoramic roof is standard, which is not the case in the regular version of the Golf R.
Manual or automatic?
Aside from the color, there is only one option to choose from for the 2023 Volkswagen Golf R 20th Anniversary, and that is the transmission. If you opt for the six-speed manual transmission, the starting price is $53,510, while the price increases to $54,910 with the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
